Kanasu Café will celebrate “World Menstrual Hygiene Day” by raising consciousness and awareness on the need for sustainable mestrual hygiene practices. We will discuss how girls/women can manage their menstruation with safety, dignity and privacy, while caring for the environment.
We will engage with women from self help groups, as well as women who work with disadvantaged girls. The event will start with showing a short movie and PowerPoint presentation on local challenges to sustainable hygiene practices. This will be followed by an interactive session with leading gynaecologists, focusing on the many alternatives to disposable products, and the advantages of using reusable pads and menstrual cups.
The event has been organized by the Make Ooty Beautiful (MOB) Project, which is a group of volunteers working to streamline solid waste management in Ooty, along with Real Relief India (https://www.facebook.com/safepadindia/), which will distribute over 30 packs of reusable Safepad™’s to participants.
