The commemoration of the 2018 Menstrual Hygiene Day event in Rarieda Constituency, Siaya County has been organised by Rarieda Girl Power Initiative under the Rarieda Constituency First Lady Empowerment Programme with the support of Femme International, Zana Africa, and other partners.
The event will bring together school girls to engage dialogue around menstruation and the myths and taboos that result in their disempowerment and body shame. We will engage motivational speakers and menstrual hygiene officers in sensitizing the girls on the importance of menstrual hygiene, and train them on menstrual hygiene management.
We will also distribute washable pads, menstrual cups, disposable sanitary towels, underwear/pants, and soap to about 400 girls from very low income households in five secondary schools, representing each of the five wards in the constituency.
At Rarieda Girl Power Initiative, we endeavor to raise ‘Hands of Hope for Dignified Periods’ in the Rarieda Constituency, just like we concur with this year’s theme ‘Menstruation Matters to Everyone, Everywhere.’
