Menstrual Hygiene Education and distribution of reusable sanitary pads at Pandpieri Primary School in Kisumu

Girls miss on average 405hrs in a school year due to lack of proper sanitary towels. This impacts negatively on their academic performance and future prospects for employment and economic independence.

The girls are exposed to vices such as early marriages, teenage pregnancies, STI’s and school dropout due to period poverty. Some give sexual favors to get money for pads.

Reusable sanitary towels are hygienic and environment friendly. We intend to reach 416 girls living in an informal settlement and attending Pandpieri Primary school located within the informal settlement, that is the Nyalenda slums in Kisumu. The girls will stay in school and this will improve their academic output and confidence, reducing cases of early marriages, teenage pregnancies and school dropouts. This will result in more confident and focused girls determined to achieve their full potential.
